I am sitting there in my armchair trawling through movie possibilities on streaming services. There are a lot of films featuring guns, just in case you have been living in a cave for the last 25 years and may have missed this. Mostly dumb American movies featuring actors brandishing weapons like they are magical talismans. The biggest guns attracting more attention from an adolescent audience that seemingly never grows up. Lots of guys watch flicks with actors playing with toy guns pretending to be baddies and tough hombres.

Imagine if they banned guns from the movies – a lot of stupid stuff would never see the light of day.

Picture A World Where Guns Are Hardly Ever Seen

There would be a lot of film folk out of a job and permanently out of a line of work. I mean it must take a special kind of writer to come up with the moronic crap they serve up as scripts these days. Similarly, actors waving toy guns around make up large amounts of what they call the ‘actor’s business’. The actor would have to work some more if they weren’t relying on holding gun in a scene to ensure viewer attention. Same goes for directors, camera and sound operators, editors, and stunt professionals.

Do we really need the crap they serve up in this section of the entertainment business? Do we need a world full of real and imaginary guns?

Giving Kids Assault Weapons On Their 14th Birthday

A 14 year old kid has just allegedly murdered 2 other school kids and 2 teachers in Georgia at yet another mass shooting event. His dad bought him an AR-15 style assault weapon for his birthday. What a guy! Thanks dad! They have both been charged with multiple murder charges. I don’t think he took this new gun to school for show and tell but the kid allegedly used it to further his murderous intent just the same. America has a screw loose! I mean they have Donald Trump vying to be President and they give assault weapons to children. 90% of all their movies prominently feature guns and killing. We are the stories we tell ourselves.

In America they bang on about freedom of speech in their much vaunted Constitution. Although that document is looking decidedly patchy under the current bunch of Supreme Court justices. They boast about the freedom to say what they want without censorship. So what do they say? In the movie business they tell lousy stories about people with guns. They tell and show stories about human beings shooting and killing other human beings. Interspersed with a few car chase scenes, where they might shoot at each other from vehicle to vehicle. Guns are the stars of many movies. Characters are collateral damage in lots of instances.

I wonder if that kid in Georgia watched a whole lot of these movies and played video games featuring shooting and killing?
