AI is coming for your job. As someone who has just been replaced by an automated program this is real, let me tell you. In light of this it is pertinent to remember that Australia punishes the unemployed economically. It is bipartisan policy of Australian governments to provide below the poverty line welfare payments to the unemployed. This has been going on for decades and is one of the reasons why we have a substantial number of older Australians living in poverty. These folk cannot afford to visit the dentist to get treatment because it is too expensive and dental is not included in Medicare. This in one of the wealthiest nations on earth.
AI Will Produce Mass Unemployment Downunder
Jim Chalmers is singing the praises of AI at his productivity summit. Yes, AI will increase productivity by replacing workers with machines. The GDP figures will initially look better on paper or should I say digitally. Bean counters will be happy but even they will soon be replaced by AI. Hundreds of thousands of jobs will go. What will all these white collar middle management folk do instead? Are there any real plans for this displacement? It seems pretty obvious that domestic demand for goods and services will take a substantial hit on the back of all these retrenchments. Especially as Australia punishes the unemployed via ‘tough love’ economic treatment. Paying the mortgage and affording high rents by delivering pizzas is going to be a big ask.
“Since the start of the year, tech firms across the globe have laid off more than 90,000 workers, many of them working in AI development, with more than two-thirds of those jobs evaporating in US firms at the forefront of the AI revolution.”
Unemployment Via AI Is Coming Aussies
The business associations are already clamouring for the removal of regulation around this. Talking up the uptick in productivity figures via sacking workers. I just lost my job to AI after a decade and a half of faithful service. Short termist candy from economic savings via a reduced wages bill and the new toy excitement leaves real human beings in their wake. How many Aussies really want this Big Tech takeover of their lives, I wonder? Nobody is asking us, however! The spin coming out of the marketing departments paint a rosy future for all humankind on the back of AI. In reality this is disruption on a massive scale for what? Big companies think they will make more money for shareholders. This is more about a section of the population, the 1%, taking more than they deserve at our expense. Get ready for the scrapheap folks and weak as piss governments doing nothing on our behalf.
Robodebt Was AI At Work In Government
Neoliberalism has gutted governments of any substance; they are merely cheerleaders for big business. Can you imagine Albanese standing up for you or your rights? The other mob are worse, of course. The politicians have their hands in the till to take their cut. Nothing to see here, move along, the NACC is the perfect example of this. A secret body of ‘do nothings’. Robodebt was the first example of automated machines raping the vulnerable downunder – a protype AI function in government. Despite costing tax payers billions of dollars and Australians killing themselves not one government minister or employee has been prosecuted. Aussie justice folks!
Australia punishes the unemployed! AI generates unemployment. Welfare payments are below the poverty line in Oz. Do the math. Welcome to the rosy future folks.
“You know, paying your taxes is pretty important for the country. It may not be popular but tax revenue challenges are vital to the future of this nation. ATO $2 billion scam failure lets down Australia. The ABC’s 4 Corners has exposed huge holes in the ATO automated system to the tune of billions of dollars. Local scammers and criminals have plundered the tax office to an extraordinary scale over recent years. The disappointing nature of this is not only the embarrassing hit to the nation’s coffers but the fact that ATO retrenchments directly contributed to the appalling loss and theft of funds.”
