Do you want to know the fundamental difference between Left and Right political parties? The Left is committed to bringing everyone along for the ride, whilst the Right is about winner takes all. Have a look at the United States, where right wing politics has prevailed for much of its history. President Trump’s rendition of the Republican party is probably the most extreme far right version we have seen in a good while. What are the major themes running through Trump 2.0? White supremacy is pretty hard to ignore with ICE agents running amok, detaining and murdering Americans based on the colour of their skin. Right wing thugs are not the sharpest tools in the shed and plenty of US citizens have been wrongly targeted in these storm trooper type raids upon unarmed Americans.
The Left is committed to bringing everyone along for the ride, whilst the Right is about winner takes all.
Right Wing American Capitalism Don’t Want To Pay Tax
American capitalism, which is exported around the world, is a ruthless, profiteering and tax avoiding business. Big Tech, the technology giants like Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta, are in an AI race to continue their dominance of the world. These American multinationals rake in billions wherever they operate and avoid paying tax by shifting their profits to tax havens. Right wing political parties, like the Trump regime, ensure that they can get away with such behaviour.
“US Threatens to Strike Back Against EU Firms for Digital Tax”
Any regulation or taxation applied to Big Tech America is accused of stifling innovation, when in actual fact these companies are merely avoiding paying their fair share of tax globally. They have come in and devastated local media markets, stripping the bulk of revenue away from local companies. At the same time, they use creative accounting tricks to avoid paying tax on the revenue they generate. All is not fair in love and war. The technology sector is not regulated in the US and it has been a bonanza for these social media and digital service companies. They have all backed Trump, as the Biden administration was beginning to introduce anti-trust and other legislation designed to rein in these oligarchs and their runaway wealth. Taxation is about community, about governments funding community services.
Understanding The Difference Between Left & Right
Returning to the fundamental difference between Left and Right. Frequently those on the Right accuse their opponents of wasting tax dollars on emotive issues like transgender rights, refugees, Indigenous welfare and other minority group concerns. This is an illustrative example of the ideological divide between Left and Right. Those in the Right camp do not want their tax dollars spent on those they do not approve of. Indeed, they don’t really want to pay taxes at all or at the very least as little as possible. Whereas those on the more progressive Left think that we all deserve to be cared for by the state, whether we agree or approve of their lifestyles. The right wing economic theory and practice of neoliberalism, as brought about by the economist Milton Friedman and his ilk, perpetuated unrestrained market forces freed from government regulation. Ronald Reagan brought this economic approach to bear upon the United States during his presidencies. We heard a lot about the ‘trickle down effect’, even if we did not actually see it manifest itself for the bulk of the poor. Neoliberalism created super wealth for the already wealthy and began the billionaire factory in America. The divide between rich and poor became like the Grand Canyon via the effects of unrestrained market forces filling the boots of billionaires. Americans began to celebrate extreme wealth, as it flourished among the fortunate few. It promoted an aspirational attitude toward extreme wealth, somewhat like the lottery. This is despite the fact that these billionaires fed upon the exploitation of the many. Common sense has never quite figured out the adding up bit around money, it seems. As sectors were deregulated and privatized it was who you knew and how you were placed to invest, which determined whether the exclusive gravy train would carry you to a material paradise on earth.
I Want The Biggest Slice & Bugger The Rest
I suppose the thinking behind those who support right wing politics is that the pie is only so big and I want the biggest slice for me and my family. Community is not paramount in their value system. Thus, the paradigm of the Right includes the blame game demonising ‘others’. Others might include foreign looking folk, LGBTQI types, indeed, anyone not defined by their narrow identifiers of nationality, race and lifestyle. Right wing people are often seen wrapping themselves in the national flag. This is a political strategy to capture the supposed high moral ground of patriotism. Suddenly, the archetype of a true American or Australian is a xenophobic racist. Neo-Nazis, of course, are right at home in this company. The fundamental difference between Left and Right is greed.
The Blame Game Strategy
On the Right they pride themselves on providing simplistic solutions to complex problems. Anti-immigration policies are often mooted as the answer for the working poor doing it tough. Even though it is not new migrants taking the lion’s share of profits out of the economy. No, that is reserved for the billionaires who have gamed the system and are backing Trump or whoever the right wing candidate in the race is. Blame the immigrant is a favourite strategy of political strategists in every country. Distract and divert attention away from the real greedy bastard stealing the lunches of the punters. Racism and white supremacy are perennial hate buttons to push for politicians, especially when affordability issues dominate the economic landscape. If you can get right wing folk wrapping themselves in the national flag and marching to oust migrants you have the beginnings of a fascist power play. The fundamental difference between Left and Right is self-interest.
War Is Always The Answer On The Right
Wars are another crowd favourite, especially at their beginnings. Right wing authoritarian leaders can point at a new enemy for their subjects to vent their ire upon. The blame game again detracts from who is corruptly stealing the nation’s wealth and focuses attention on a foreign enemy. The Right control the media and so, cover stories about evil foreign powers are read with glee by the mob, headlines and videos damning them and praising our brave boys are everywhere. The corruption of Netanyahu in Israel is put on the back burner whilst he directs wars against Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. Trump’s numerous crimes and his dominant part in the Epstein files are no longer front and centre, as war pushes them off the front page at home.
The Right firmly believes in Social Darwinism and that only the strong deserve to survive and thrive. Their definition of strong includes those favoured by skin colour, gender, those of fortunate birth, wealth and who you know provide the inside running in any race. There is no meritocracy operating, that is a furphy, the boy’s clubs exist the world over. Proof of this is available any time that you try for one of the elite jobs, as they invariably go to one of their own. Trump is attempting to halt America’s transformation into a multiracial society, where more types of people get to sit at the big table. His slurs upon DEI initiatives are without merit and wildly exaggerated. The US military used to be the most racist and white supremacist institutions in America. It took many decades to dent that disgraceful reality. Pete Hegseth is not fit to clean the boots of a US soldier of whatever skin colour, gender or sexual persuasion. The knuckleheads that Trump has assembled in his cabinet are there because no half sane individual of elite capacity would work for Donald Trump.
“Does anybody else find it ironic that a would-be-dictator is bragging about killing a dictator of another country? I am talking about President Trump, who tells Americans there should be no separation between church and state, and the theocratic leader of Iran, the late Khamenei. Donald Trump previously claimed to be worthy of the Nobel peace prize, as the war stopper par excellence. Hey, he has obviously moved on from this deeply held moral standpoint. Boredom is Trump’s greatest threat, it seems. Donald Trump is, without doubt, the biggest liar that the American presidency has ever seen. Therefore, his claims are as credible as the boy who cried wolf.”
