Dean Cox presents yet another Sydney Swans side unprepared to play AFL football. The team that fronted up against Essendon were uncompetitive and disorganised. Very soon they were 8 goals down and 3 of them were due to ill discipline and 50m penalties, which resulted in majors. There is a worrying complacency, combined with rank mediocrity, permeating the Swans in 2025. Happy little children dressed up to play footy rather than men with a game to win is what emanates from the red and white these days. The Swans coaching cohort appear bland and beige despite being dressed in scarlet.

Another Loss For The Red & White Team

How did they lose this contest? Let me count the ways. Poor disposal with Matt Roberts guilty of this many times and several cost goals. Isaac Heeney slipping over at crucial times repeatedly. Free kicks and 50m penalties were all in the mix to cruel chances. Inaccurate kicking in front of the big sticks was a constant theme throughout the match. Aaron Francis was very poor despite this game being against his old mob. Aaron had been playing well of late (a rare occurrence) and yet he was either spooked or scared of his own shadow against the Bombers. Hayden McLean the Swan’s key forward, once again, had the opportunity to kick a crucial goal and failed. Sound familiar? Justin McInerney another repeat offender in the missing goals from inside 20m was prominent again in this regard.

“Essendon has hung on to claim a thrilling eight-point win over Sydney in a rollercoaster match at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

The Bombers had blitzed the Swans from the opening bounce, kicking their first three goals from 50-metre penalties.”

Another Sydney Swan’s Side Unprepared

Why Are The Sydney Swans So Crap in 2025?

The Sydney Swans are not travelling well and the head coach must take responsibility. Injuries are not an excuse, they say, but I hear that a lot from every man and his dog. The big man may not have been the best choice by the look of things. The culture of the club has lost that high performance exceptionality and mediocrity is becoming the norm. This mob does not bleed red and white like former renditions of the team. It doesn’t seem to mean enough to them. Boys like Peter Pans instead of men. The old stagers, like Dane Rampe and Jake Lloyd, are well past their best versions of themselves. The dreaded ‘rebuilding’ word will start to get mentioned soon, as this season is a write off. The effort of John Longmire to keep the Swans up the top for years has, it seems, has wearied the rest of the club and now they’re sliding.

Bloodless Swans outplayed by Magpies

Bye Bye Brilliant Bloods

Tom McCartin was much better on Saturday afternoon, as was Brody Grundy eventually. The Swans lifted in the second half but like the match against Port Adelaide they had left themselves too much to do. Plus, they no longer have the will or polish to do it when it really matters. Missing crucial shots in front of goals speaks of a deeper malaise within the club. Braeden Campbell is disappointing, as I thought he had it in him to rise to fill Errol’s boots somewhat. Bice’s form has dropped off. Florent is another disappointment in 2025. These guys don’t know how good they have had it and as exceptionalism drops away so will the goodwill. Another Sydney Swan’s side unprepared to get the job done and don’t it stink to high heaven!

“The Sydney Swans VFL side have gone down to a dominant Essendon Bombers VFL outfit on Saturday afternoon.”
