Here we are in the election wars with Scomo and Albo fighting it out with words. Yes, words are the weapons of choice in realpolitik. Nasty jibes based on half truths or mere lies are flung about will nilly during the campaign (another military term). The two generals are facing off in the media and prodding the electorate with fear based salvos to engender your vote. “It will be worse under the other bloke’s watch,” is the main message.
Scomo should have been an actor because he feigns sincerity with the best of them.
Telling the Truth Vs Talking Tough
Albo is hamstrung by his nascent integrity, as he attempts to make a virtue of owning up to gaffs and brain fades. Will the Australian electorate stick with the liar in the lodge or gamble on the good guy who makes mistakes on the political stage? This will be a revealing reflection of the true nature of the Australian electorate. It will shine a light on us and what we value.
The pundits reckon that the election will be split by gender on this basis, with more women turned off Scomo and more men valuing the appearance of strength over anything else. It will come down to telling the truth vs talking tough.
Murdoch Media Gotcha Moments Mar Campaign
6 weeks of words dunked in mud to stain the other guy’s attire. The media are already restless and spitting venom like Murdoch’s attack dogs. This has been the most disrespectful performance ever in an Australian federal election campaign by the paid scribes.
Press conferences are like media scrum spelling bees with aggressive questioners entrapping easy going Aussies to their detriment. Political leaders must memorise vast chunks of facts and figures if they are to get a pass mark from the smirking media bosses.
The greasy pole has never been more unattractively portrayed. Those who dare to vie for the top job in Canberra are smeared in excrement made by opposing parties and the ravenous media baying for blood. Words are the weapons of choice and they have been carefully crafted by word-locks and spin-doctors. Data from focus groups has been massaged into political doublespeak so that words for the ears of regional Queensland don’t offend inner-city Liberals and vice versa. Getting the message across has never been more convoluted and less likely to tell the whole truth.
