Canada is applying a digital service’s tax on US companies doing this kind of business in that country. This will raise billions, as they are making it retroactive. Australia needs to copy Canada’s digital service tax to get these companies to pay their fair share of tax downunder. This Canadian initiative will apply to Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Meta and the usual suspects in the digital space. The reason that this is required is that these giant companies avoid paying tax by shifting profits to low tax nations like Ireland, the Cayman and Virgin Islands etc. plus, claiming expenses in higher tax places like Australia and Canada. It is a well known corporate rort exploiting loopholes in the tax systems of nations with legions of tax accountants employed by them.
“Canada’s digital services tax (DST) affects mega companies that offer digital services — like online advertising or shopping — and earn more than $20 million in revenue from Canadian sources. Giant companies like Amazon, Apple, Airbnb, Google, Meta and Uber will be taxed three per cent on the money they make from Canadian users and customers.
The levy has been in place since last year, but the first payments are due starting Monday. It’s retroactive to 2022, so U.S. companies will end up with a $2-billion US bill. “
Albanese, Australia Must Get US Corporations To Pay Tax On Their Revenue
Australia needs to copy Canada’s digital service tax to get these companies to pay their fair share of tax downunder. Americans are the free loading nation of the world when it comes to their not paying a fair share of tax on the hundreds of billions they generate in revenue here. The disease they all suffer from in the Republican Party over there – a belief that they have the right not to pay a reasonable rate of tax, even when they are super rich – has been spread everywhere they go. Australia requires real leadership, like Canada, on this fundamental matter. Trump or no Trump – the bastards must pay their fair share of tax.
Digital Billionaires Are A Failure Of The Democratic System
Billionaires are a failing of the democratic system – they should not exist. The US sets no limits or standards on anything. Look at them with all those guns and kiddies being slaughtered every week by automatic weapons. Look at all those ageing political leaders and Supreme Court justices – there is no set retirement age. Look at all those liars on Fox News – there are no standards around factuality in the news media in the US. Rich people milk the system and get filthy rich as a result. Political power is purchased by these billionaires to further their own ends. It is obscene. They are funding family dynasties at the expense of tens of millions of poorer folk. The Trump tax cuts are a clear illustration of this with government services being slashed to fund ongoing tax cuts for billionaires. America is disgrace. Jeff Bezos spending upwards of $50 million on a wedding in Venice. It is a return of the slave nation ethos to have such inequity on steroids.
American Digital Service Corporations Raping The Planet
Australia needs to copy Canada’s digital service tax to get these companies to pay their fair share of tax downunder. The US has failed to rein in these digital service behemoths with, again, no standards and little regulation. This failure has created nabobs with their own armies of minions doing their bidding. This is not a democracy it is a distorted dystopian nightmare for those of us looking on. A once great nation betrayed by its ruling class to exploit them like the slaves of yesteryear. Donald Trump is the shit icing atop a layer cake of inequality and inequity. The Elon Musk’s’ and their oligarch ilk are feeding on ever increasing human misery and paying bugger all tax. Social media is an American invention and hasn’t that made the world a better place? Cynical refrain here folks. A digital mirror that encourages a shit storm of enragement with the aid of bots and algorithms. AI is coming to join the party.
“If Albanese is hoping that Donald Trump is a temporary anomaly in the US, albeit for the second time in 10 years, the damage done to the Republican Party seems severe to permanent. The extremist nature of too many Americans makes the nation an uncomfortable ally for a true democratic country like Australia. The overwhelming rejection of Temu Trump and the LNP Coalition at the last election sends a message to Anthony Albanese, here at home – Australian’s don’t like Trump or extreme American politics. Albanese don’t suck up to Trump over AUKUS, rather be smart and work toward alternative and more independent national security arrangements.”
