8 Things That Mean You’re Right Wing
0 8 mins 7 minutes

We use the terms Right and Left as shorthand for political persuasions. So, what are 8 things that mean you’re right wing? In the current climate, this is likely to indicate that this person shares exclusionary cultural attitudes, which could be categorised as racist, maybe white supremacist, supports the ‘trad wife’ gender positioning, doesn’t like much government regulation, is anti-immigration, and wants to pay as little tax as possible. Whereas those on the left may support socialism, which is more and better government regulation, wants to see greater respect for diversity in all its forms, an expansion of power sharing beyond the white male cohort, and wealth being taxed to create real equity among more of us.

Let’s talk About Left & Right Wing Politics

As you can see, these definitions, whilst not being exhaustive, give a fair idea about what Left and Right care about. It, also, clearly shows that the big difference between those on the opposing sides are about supporting political systems for all versus for some.  8 things that mean you’re right wing. The Right does not promote economic and cultural orders based upon equality and fairness for all. At the core of those in the right-wing camp is a desire to protect and enhance the wealth of the ‘haves’ against the ‘have nots. These people know that their position is not democratic or justly equitable, so they garnish it with add-ons. They do this by indemnifying their position by saying that we were here first (the first white invaders, ignoring actual First Nations people). European tradition and the Anglo-settler pioneering spirit stuff. They, also, do this more virulently by demonising ‘the other’. Immigrants are classified as bad (when in fact they are merely just more recent immigrants). LGBTQI folk are deviants and, therefore, don’t deserve any rights in their book. Indigenous peoples are categorised as lazy and backward, thus, also, not deserving of economic opportunities. Those on the Right go down the list crossing off types of people undeserving of the wealth that they themselves have earned by the honest sweat of their brows (in actual fact, many have inherited their wealth and have reserved the inside running for themselves and their kind in the economic stakes). Nepotism and jobs for the boys are rife within the elite in every ‘so-called’ democratic nation. Sending their kids to private schools to network with other wealthy folk.

Listing 8 Things That Mean You’re Right Wing

  1. You always want more!
  2. You worry about money & financial security.
  3. You think that you are more deserving than your neighbour.
  4. You reckon that white folk are smarter & better leaders.
  5. You consider that things were better back then.
  6. You believe that your people built this country.
  7. Segregation, in your view, is the way to go.
  8. God loves the white man more, according to your beliefs.

Right Wing Political Fear Mongering

Those on the Right, politically speaking, subscribe to the finite pie paradigm. 8 things that mean you’re right wing. There are, in their conception, only a limited number of pieces of pie and they are going to ensure they get one by preventing someone who doesn’t look or act like them from getting access to that pie. Thus, you get the populist policies on the Right denigrating immigrants, refugees, LGBTQI folk, and anyone else they can get away with slagging off. Dole bludgers, leftie students, greenies, Indigenous peoples and those not fitting their idea of what it means to be one of them. Women used to fill one of these niches and some conservatives would like to see them back in the second-class citizen category. Right wing political activists like to sew fear around economic security issues and frequently play the race card by dog whistling up white supremacy inclinations within the population. There is, according to them, never enough money to fund stuff for minority groups and this is a drain on the economy and, therefore, upon their taxes.

8 things that mean you’re right wing. Is it a lack of intelligence, which characterises right wing voters, or just an inclination not to look too deeply into things? Or is it out and out greed and avarice? A predilection for blaming others for your own failings is another common attribute of those on the Right. Pointing the finger at people with a different coloured skin is very popular in this milieu. I would describe many on the Right, as people who like to follow the lead of a loud voice on the political hustings. That they, also, like to bitch and moan about stuff till the cows come home. The politics of grievance. Taking responsibility for where they find themselves is not top of their list.

Australians Do Not Grasp How Bad America Has Become

Right wing political parties want to make you feel that white supremacy and racism are OK. Donald Trump and Nigel Farage, for instance, in their speeches and social media messaging are constantly attacking those they do not rate as real Americans or Brits. The enemies within and that sort of fascist language are popular on the Right. They will usually appeal to your predilection for blaming others for all your troubles. These politicians and their strategists are very effective in this. They paint a romanticised nostalgia for a time when things were whiter and life was simpler. This is all tosh, of course, as no one really knows what lives were like back then and the actual problems they faced. It is a fantasy set in an idealised conception of the past. A golden age.

This kind of thinking is not going to make the world a better place. Trump and his tariffs will be taking us all closer to outright war. It is short-term thinking that will damage communities and the planet. Donald Trump is an old white man and will be dead soon. In the meantime, and it has got meaner under Trump, be courageous and do not fall for the blame game pushed by those on the Right. We are all in this together and showing respect for each other is what is important. Billionaires are stealing our lunch. It is time to throw off the yoke from the oligarchs. Stand up and get off your knees!

What About Woke?

“There is a narrative making the rounds that goes something like this. Donald Trump was re-elected on the back of an anti-woke backlash by working class voters. The truth about anti-wokeness is a more nuanced story. Society has been moving toward a more multiracial and diverse status quo. It has not been without its issues, especially for historically entitled white folk. Learning to be tolerant of others, not obviously like you, is not immediately attractive to some. We were, however, making inroads in the right direction. Then, some smart cookie in the right wing camp thought, why not make an advantage out of what was once considered a negative trait.”
