The culture wars can be divided down the gender divide in Australia. It is white men versus the world of women. Kerry Stokes sits atop his pile and directs his media shock troops to beat up on the hopes of his female employees. Four Corners exposed the facts that Channel 7 champions misogyny and misery. Then, they buy their silence with NDAs. Who else is famous for NDAs? Oh yeah, the convicted celebrity rapist Harvey Weinstein. Perhaps, Harvey is a hero of the upper management at Seven West Media. I mean, let’s look at the evidence.
Seven West Media On The Side Of Male Violence
Stokes and Seven West champions Ben Roberts-Smith, who is found in civil proceedings to have likely committed war crimes against innocent Afghanis. Channel 7’s Spotlight backs this up by funding Bruce Lehrmann, again found by a judge in a civil court action to have in all likelihood raped Brittany Higgins in the offices of Parliament House. Championing war criminals and rapists for ratings and winning the gender battle downunder – what a legacy! What message does this send to the Australian community that a major media organisation backs male violence over the scales of justice. Remember that both these civil actions were brought by Roberts-Smith and Lehrmann in a bid to enrich themselves via suing for defamation. They both lost.
Spotlight On Hypocrisy & Soullessness At Channel Seven
“Court documents reveal the Seven Network is paying $4,000 per fortnight to cover Bruce Lehrmann’s rent, in exchange for him speaking exclusively to the network over a 12-month period.”
Spotlight allegedly bought Bruce Lehrmann with prostitutes and cocaine, according to their producer who did the buying. Channel 7 denies this but what would you expect them to say. They paid Lehrmann’s Sydney rent for a year, with the rents sky high right now this was around $100, 000. They claimed at the time of the Spotlight interview that they had not paid Lehrmann. So, they have a history of lying. Channel 7 is one of the two major commercial TV networks in Australia. It projects itself as the family network with promos featuring on air presenters displaying sickening fake smiles amid the heavy make-up. Behind the scenes we now know is a very different atmosphere. Sickening Channel 7 Tales Of Misogyny & Exploitation
Numerous former Channel 7 presenters and producers were featured in the 4 Corners expose. A sickening tale of misogyny and exploitation of women was revealed. Men in power making young women work all hours for little pay. There are parallels with Weinstein in this, as both 7 and the Hollywood producer preyed on the aspirations and dreams of young women hoping to become screen idols. The entertainment business is notorious for this male dominated exploitation of young women. Sleazy behind the camera blokes wanting to get their paws on the pretty things in focus. Producers and cameramen disparaging them when they can’s get into their knickers. It is an old story in the male dominated world that seemingly never really goes away.
We have a problem with domestic violence (DV) in Australia – do we really want a major media organisation contributing to the promulgation of DV by their actions and policies?
Damaged Young Women Departing Seven
The upshot of these behaviours and gross misuses of power were damaged young women. Some suicidal, hospitalised, and with their careers in tatters, but maybe wiser about Australian men and how the industry really works. In Australia, we have billionaire media moguls like Stokes and Rupert Murdoch pulling the strings. Right wing business tyrants manipulating the nation via the culture wars. Extremist conservatives want women back in the kitchen in America and elsewhere. They have bought the US Supreme Court to roll back Roe vs Wade via the Dobb’s decision – making abortion illegal in many states controlled by the Republican party. Australian conservatives look to the US for inspiration and follow their lead like faithful puppies. News Corp runs a non-stop right wing agenda in its newspapers around Australia bagging renewables and climate change, attacking LGBTQI folk and making gender identity into a lightning rod for those unaffected directly by it. It is like the denial of racism in this country, the premise being they ask white people if there is racism in Australia, rather than those who are victimised by racism. Fox News and Sky News Australia are rabid op/ed cess pools of biased material with next to no objective journalism happening. Rupert sells enragement to his right wing audience and his advertisers.
Channel 7 pumps out clickbait news online for their older white audience promoting the falsehood of youth crime waves around the nation.
These are all predicated on the paranoia generating idea of the white citadel under attack from dark skinned refugees, Aboriginals, immigrants, and wild youngsters more generally. The race riots in Britain, the mother country, are another example of this campaign being run by far right groups to agitate uprisings. Andrew Tate, Elon Musk, and other promoters of hate based on race are pushing an agenda. Trump, of course, is the bloated public face of racism and right wing authoritarianism in America. We have a media problem in Australia with the corporate media controlled by oligarchs who have moved to the far right. They are pushing extremist views on their platforms, which are anti-women, anti-LGBTIQ, anti-renewables, anti-decency for all Australians no matter their race, gender, and sexual preference.
This all about power, of course, who has it and who hasn’t. White men in positions of power, producers wielding their power over younger female reporters and presenters at Channel 7 and abusing it.
