Something close to two thirds of surveyed Americans disapprove of the big bill that passed the senate. This bill takes from the poor and gives to the super rich by slashing Medicaid to fund tax cuts for billionaires. The US Republican lawmakers lack courage in the face of mob boss Trump and his MAGA machine. There is no place for individuals to stand up against stuff on behalf of their constituents in US politics anymore – the game has been rigged. Trump has corrupted the democratic process to deliver him the votes and the American people are the losers. https://www.axios.com/2025/07/01/trump-big-beautiful-bill-polling
Self Interest On Steroids Rules The American Republic
This bill was the pay off from Trump to his donors and the vested interests. Who copped it in the neck? The poor, the vulnerable, the sick and the weak. Self-interest on steroids is the GOP ethos in 2025 and beyond. This bill is going to increase the US debt by 3 to 5 trillion dollars over the next decade, according to the economic experts. Republicans are claiming that it will spark off investment and productivity growth but cutting off America via extreme immigration deportation policies is a dangerous pathway to follow. History tells us that these protectionary isolationist policies invariably result in the opposite outcomes.
GOP US Representatives Are Trump Puppets
Rich people, especially, in rocky times like this under Trump, will attempt to bank their assets rather than invest them. Uncertainty does not stimulate investment growth. International investors are pulling their money out of the bond market because of Trump. I see a shrinking America accelerating under this regime. This unfriendly and unpopular government will become a magnet for the ill gotten gains of other despots and corrupt regimes. The US is on a course for further odious associations and criminal activities. The US Republican lawmakers lack courage and their role has been largely subsumed by the executive. Indeed, just like the distorted capitalism in America the system has been gamed by Trump. Competition has been removed in business by takeovers and mergers to leave oligarchs in charge of sectors. Congress has been denuded of power by an executive backed by a machine capable of out-primarying representatives. AIPAC can outspend those representatives failing to sing from the designated song sheet. Democratically America is f*****!
US On A Highway To Hell
What can Americans do about it? About living in a country where their wishes are not listened to or acted upon? The US is a nation where the rich thrive at the expense of the tens of millions of poor. The voiceless are being hounded out of the place by ICE and a bristling police state. The problem with this is that these folk perform important if underappreciated roles for the nation’s economy. Very soon the rubber is going to hit the road on this score and watch out folks. These unjust and economically misguided policies have put America on a highway to hell. The only way extreme violence is going to be avoided is by apathy and complacency on the part of the downtrodden.
Trump’s Election In 2024
It is hard to believe that a majority of sane voters elected Donald Trump, albeit by only 1.8 points.
“In other words, if Harris had done just 1.8 points better across the board — or even just in those three states (although that’s not usually how elections work) — she would be the president-elect right now.”
There are doubts about the results in those swing states and legal actions have been taken by election monitoring groups in regard to anomalous voting results. In all of these, the strange pattern in long held Democratic areas saw voters favour Democrats in local races but vote for Trump in the presidential contest. WTF?
Rich & Powerful Exerting Undue Influence
“The current shift to authoritarianism in the United States is not about folk with too little, but is being driven by those with too much wealth and power. The thing is that amassing wealth does not make you more amenable to sharing it, rather it has the opposite effect in many. People get very protective about their assets and wish ever greater control over things. A growing number of billionaires are driven by the desire to exert ever more influence and power over masses of people in America. It is disgusting really what we are witnessing in the US at the moment.”
