Liberal Party In Civil War For Control
0 7 mins 1 mth

The Liberal Party of Australia is in a civil war between its moderate side, which seeks to regain relevance within a modern Australia, and the far right faction still in the grip of toxic masculinity. Peter Dutton fell at the last federal election, as leader, rejected by the Australian electorate on all fronts. He had run a campaign and his tenure as opposition leader aggressively, in the mode of former short term PM Tony Abbott. Abbott was still pulling the Liberal Party strings, along with his former chief of staff now over at Sky News Australia. Their conservative brand was Trumpist, via its extreme nature, which was always attacking and polarizing. Liberal Party in civil war for control, who will lead them going forward? Currently, Sussan Ley holds the mantle atop the Liberal Party of Australia.

Big Swinging Dicks Or More Moderate Vaginas?

Who are the male candidates for the leadership position of the Libs at the federal level? Angus Taylor, Andrew Hastie, Dan Tehan? There is not a long list to choose from because the list of MPs is brief in itself. Is this a battle for the soul of the Libs or will it be a well thought out plan to rebuild the lost ground from the centre? It cannot be both. The macho boys want to run a bullying Trump style operation but the girls know that this has been tried and failed with the Australian people. Extremism is not a populist thing downunder.

Power Tussle For Liberal Party of Australia

It is no secret that the previous lot sought to portray Anthony Albanese as weak in comparison to their strongman candidate for the top job, Peter Dutton. Dutton and Co tirelessly tried to wedge Albo on every issue imaginable. The High Court released stateless refugees from detention, so they painted Albanese as soft on illegal refugees and crime. The Gaza War was an opportunity, with News Corp, to come out hard for Israel against Hamas, Palestinians and all non-Zionists more generally. Dutton went on a Netanyahu junket to Israel and came back fired up to wedge Albo on this issue. The waves of protests against the genocide being committed by the IDF in Gaza, where more than 70, 000, mainly women and children, had been killed by bullets and bombs, sparked conflict downunder. Ultimately, this strategy did not bear electoral fruit, as the Libs lost most of their remaining metropolitan seats to the Teals and Labor.

The Parlous Gender Situation For Liberal Party Leadership

Liberal Party in civil war for control, who will lead them going forward? The macho power hungry blokes in the Liberal Party, who had long prevented gender parity within their frontline, did not prove popular with Aussie voters. It was time for a rethink, which went against the grain for many far right warriors. Sussan Ley was elected leader, which was a female first at the federal level. You see, the Trumpian right wing brand is all about the renaissance of white men re-establishing their unquestioned position at the pinnacle of power. The war on ‘woke’, the culture wars  that the Libs had been promulgating were all about taking back what had never really gone away and making a song and dance about it. No more DEI and casting aspersions on all non-white male candidates wherever they are, this was on-song. Now, to have a woman leading the Liberal Party was just plain wrong in the minds of many male members.

Bowing Down To The Don

Donald Trump is their champion for the old white men and their mission. To turn back the clock, ahead the most powerful nation on earth. To deny climate change and grind net zero into the dirt beneath their feet. Little Australians can ride on the coat tails of the mighty Trump, especially far right politicians downunder. What kind of message will they be sending the world and their hero, if they have a woman leading them? Liberal Party in civil war for control, who will lead them going forward? Their National Party Coalition partner has dumped net zero. Real men live in the Aussie bush, obviously. Real men with rocks in their head, who are funded by foreign owned mining companies. They are not alone in this financial arrangement, with all main parties taking money from the fossil fuel industry.

Influence At The Top Downunder

The political class here, like in most places, is beholden not so much to us but to the wealthy and powerful. Miners, multinationals, and their lobbyists break bread with our pollies on a daily basis, whereas we get to have our say every 3 or 4 years. You do math. Obviously, the powerful prefer to have a national leader in their own image. Glass ceilings are dangerous break them and you could get your head sliced off.

Big Gas Pays Bugger All Tax

“Many Australians are becoming aware that gas companies in Australia pay bugger all tax. This situation is pretty incredulous. Santos has not paid any corporate tax for 10 years, whilst it has generated revenue in excess of $50 billion. In addition, the PRRT does not raise much revenue from LPG in Australia because of the way it is structured.”
