The state supreme court in Colorado has declared Donald J Trump unfit to be on the ballot for the 2024 presidential race in that state. Many of us who have been following the Trump vs democracy saga would say – about bloody time! How can you have a candidate vying for the presidency who continually casts doubt upon the veracity of the electoral system? A man who promulgates ‘the big lie’ that he was robbed of victory in the 2020 election. This is despite numerous private and judicial enquiries into election fraud finding nothing that merits this erroneous belief. Even the investigator paid by Trump’s own legal team has come out and said he found nothing.
“Ken Block, founder of the firm Simpatico Software Systems, studied more than a dozen voter fraud theories and allegations for Trump’s campaign in late 2020 and found they were “all false,” he said in an interview with The Washington Post.
“No substantive voter fraud was uncovered in my investigations looking for it, nor was I able to confirm any of the outside claims of voter fraud that I was asked to look at,” he said. “Every fraud claim I was asked to investigate was false.” “
The American political system has been shown to be full of holes when it comes to dealing with Trump. In reality, Trump is an anarchist hell bent on destroying the democratic institutions the United States of America is built on. The impotence of the system revealed over the preceding years has shocked many observers. Finally, Trump banned from presidential ballot in Colorado is, hopefully, the beginning of the end for Donald J Trump.
Trump’s GOP On A Highway To Hell
The GOP is on a roller coaster to destruction itself after putting all its eggs in the Trump basket. I cannot see how this supposedly venerable party can come back from this misadventure. Professor Timothy Snyder eloquently identified the two strands co-existing within the Republican party. There are the anarchists, led by Trump, and the remaining conservatives gaming the system in the other camp. Trump has the upper hand and the power at the moment. He is taking them all on a highway to hell with no thoughts about tomorrow.
The lack of respect inherent within his followers for the American political system and institutions is very apparent. Angry people who were happy to storm the Capital on January 6th. A population willing to see the existing system destroyed and Trump put in place as dictator for the foreseeable future.
Colorado Supreme Court Bans Trump From Presidential Ballot
Trump is appealing the Colorado supreme court decision banning him from the 2024 presidential ballot. It will be heard by the US supreme court. The decision in Colorado by 4 to 3 swung on Trump’s part in the January 6th insurrection. There are other pending court cases in other states in relation to article 3 of the 14th amendment of the Constitution.
“Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection and Other Rights
Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”
The language within this clause is quite clear and does ban Trump on this basis if the courts regard January 6th as an insurrection and Trump’s involvement in that as a co-conspirator. The Colorado court has already ruled this to be so proven in its view.
Killing In God’s Name
Extremism needs to take a pill and lie down. The anarchic tendencies of a goodly portion of the Trump supporters is a worrying trend for the world. The fact that they are armed and that there are so many guns in America makes the situation all the worse. Throw in Christian nationalism, with these folks only answerable to their conception of God, it provides more concern for the safety of innocent Americans and the country itself. Religious fervour has been responsible for some of the worst atrocities in recorded history. Much evil has been committed in Jesus’ name.
Trump The Great Destroyer
The judicial system is the only thing holding up in an increasingly polarised America. Yes, SCOTUS has been compromised by conservative money and Trump. However, this is the last institution that stands between America and anarchy. I am not sure that many of these Trump supporters will really enjoy the reality of anarchy if it comes. Strong men with guns bullying their way over others. Killing on the streets. Militias exterminating vulnerable sections of society they don’t agree with. Nazi Germany in the 1930’s and 1940’s. Madmen in charge of thousands of nuclear bombs. Government institutions are there for a purpose and when they are removed it creates a vacuum for evil to move into. Think about Iraq and Afghanistan. A police state, like Russia, will have to eventuate, where human rights and freedoms disappear. Trump is not the saviour; he is potentially the great destroyer.
If Trump is a protest vote, by those who consider themselves the forgotten Americans, be careful about where that vote takes you.
