Australians were never consulted over AUKUS it was orchestrated by former PM Scott Morrison without going to the people. This $368 billion bad deal for nuclear submarines with the US and Brits makes Australia dependent upon these nations for many decades to come. In a new world order where unreliable allies like Trump’s America prevail it is not a smart move to tie yourself down to another country. Anthony Albanese don’t suck up to Trump over AUKUS, the majority of Aussies do not support you on this. America has shown itself to be way outside of what we in Australia consider to be the acceptable standards of democratic behaviour and human rights.

AUKUS Deal Ties Australian Security To Trump & America

The AUKUS deal is a very bad deal for Australia. All the risk is on the Australian side and there are no guarantees of getting any Virginia class submarines by the due date or of the AUKUS nuclear subs being ready from the Brits on time or on budget. Hundreds of billions of dollars invested in the security programs of other nations and our own sovereignty reduced for many years whist we wait for these boats. In the meantime, you have a psychopath like Trump and his minions bullying and threatening us if we don’t do what they want. Albanese don’t suck up to Trump over AUKUS.

Australia Needs A Plan B Other Than AUKUS

Former PM Malcolm Turnbull has been holding summits over this very topic and warning whoever will listen about the likely empty handed outcome for Australia. Not only will we be ripped off but more importantly it will leave us defenceless for decades in the water. There is no plan B with the Australian government and that is criminal. The bull headed belief in AUKUS by its proponents flies in the face of the evidence and track record of the US over the last 20 years. They are not building enough submarines for their own requirements and the deal lets them off our hook on this basis alone. Nuclear submarines are the most complex military hardware on the planet, pretty much, and building them is highly challenging on this basis. There are no easy solutions to remedy the current inadequacies in the US capability to build enough of them, let alone a surplus for us. Facing facts is the first step for Australia to formulate a plan B in this regard.

Albanese Government Should Take Courage From The Rejection Of Trumpian Style Politics

If Albanese is hoping that Donald Trump is a temporary anomaly in the US, albeit for the second time in 10 years, the damage done to the Republican Party seems severe to permanent. The extremist nature of too many Americans makes the nation an uncomfortable ally for a true democratic country like Australia. The overwhelming rejection of Temu Trump and the LNP Coalition at the last election sends a message to Anthony Albanese, here at home – Australian’s don’t like Trump or extreme American politics. Albanese don’t suck up to Trump over AUKUS, rather be smart and work toward alternative and more independent national security arrangements.

“The trilateral security partnership AUKUS continues to dominate Australian national security debates, and for good reason given the $368 billion price tag. Yet a more fundamental question remains largely neglected. Is direct military spending really the medium-to-long-term determinant of regional security in Asia, or even security in general? “

Australia Better Served To Make Our Own Weapons

A dependence upon US hardware, whether it be F35 aircraft, their missiles or submarines reduces Australian sovereign defence capabilities. Australians do not want to be the 51st or 52nd US state. It is time for our political leaders to grow some courage and rediscover the independence of former Australian leaders like Doc Evatt and John Curtin. Sucking up to the US, especially during the time of Trump is plain dumb. Diversifying where we source our military hardware makes for a smarter and more independent Australia. All these weapons come with extra conditions and controls. They are both incredibly expensive and you never own them outright. The software remains under the control of the makers to a large degree. Ultimately, if we have to have these weapons we should be making them ourselves. It may take many years to do this but AUKUS is not coming anytime soon, if ever, either.

“The current shift to authoritarianism in the United States is not about folk with too little, but is being driven by those with too much wealth and power. The thing is that amassing wealth does not make you more amenable to sharing it, rather it has the opposite effect in many. People get very protective about their assets and wish ever greater control over things. A growing number of billionaires are driven by the desire to exert ever more influence and power over masses of people in America. It is disgusting really what we are witnessing in the US at the moment.”
