We can bang on about terrorism and causes but it was guns that made this horrific Bondi Beach incident so costly in lives. Why does a gun licensee need 6 weapons? For those that might require reminding, guns facilitate massacres by making it easier to kill people. 16 people are dead from this mass shooting event at the time of writing. It is lax and over generous gun laws which have provided these killers with 6 guns to use in this devastating attack on multiple victims. Nobody needs 6 guns, whatever their circumstances; and the Bondi Beach victims have paid the price.
Multiple Weapons Make Killing Easier
In the case of weapons like guns, we must all be governed by worst case scenario possibilities. Guns kill people efficiently and quickly, as they are designed to do. It does not matter that the great majority of people use them responsibly if a massacre can result from the rare instances of their misuse. An inadequate comparison are the drink-driving laws that we must all adhere to. Echoes of America and its weekly mass shootings can be heard in this terrible event down at Bondi Beach. Indeed, there was one at Brown University, over there, on the same day.
Gun License Laws NSW
Guns are used recreationally and for the control of pests on properties. The most important thing to remember, however, is that they are incredibly dangerous devices in the hands of those intent on doing harm. This reality must gazump all other considerations when controlling their use via licensing.
“Authority conferred by the licence:
The licensee is authorised to possess or use a registered firearm to which the licence applies, but only for the purpose established by the licensee as being the genuine reason for possessing or using the firearm.
However, in the case of a licensee who is a person referred to in paragraph (c) of the genuine reason of vertebrate pest animal control, the authority conferred by the licence is restricted as follows—
(a) the licensee is authorised to possess or use no more than 3 registered firearms to which the licence applies,
(b) the licensee is authorised to use a firearm to which the licence applies only on the rural property specified in the licence.”

Overkill: Why does a gun licensee need 6 weapons?
I imagine that there will be an investigation into the firearm’s licensee, who is now deceased, and whether his possession of these firearms contravened the gun laws. After the fact stuff provides cold comfort to the victims’ families. It will probably emerge that he had 2 properties and 3 guns for each property to control pests. We saw what happened following the Port Arthur massacre and this mass shooting is up there with that terrible event. Lax and over generous applications of gun licensing provisions will come under strict scrutiny, I would suggest.
Christian Terrorism In Queensland
“The recent police shootings in Queensland has turned the spotlight on the role of religion in terrorism and acts of violence. The Train brothers at the centre of this mass murder were brought up by an evangelical father. The Trains made a YouTube video around the time of the police shootings telling the world that they had killed the demons and devils who had invaded their property (this video has been taken down by the police). This was a reference to the 2 young police officers who were murdered by the trio of armed Queenslanders. Thankfully, 2 more young police officers were able to survive this act of domestic terrorism.”
