To say that this act of foolishness was out of character for the Swans is an understatement, as made abundantly clear by the resultant media coverage. Yes, it cost the Sydney Swans a likely place in the Grand Final. Yes, it cost Brodie Grundy his place in the All Australian team, in my opinion. Sydney were on the nose and the official line was reduce AFL embarrassment wherever possible. Lineball decisions went against Swans. A club that had built a brilliant reputation over many years in a highly competitive market was stained with merde.
