The Sydney Swans playing group, obviously, lack belief in what they are doing. Whatever head coach Dean Cox has been selling, they aint buying! It has been awful, as a longtime supporter, to watch the crumbling of this once great team. This rendition of the Swans AFL side has almost made it to the pinnacle twice. We all know about the disastrous grand final fails of 2022 and 2024. Now, however, the 2025 Cox coached Swans are sinking and will not even make the finals. So, what has gone so dreadfully wrong after the bright hopes at season beginning of a fresh start under longtime apprentice, the big fella, Dean Cox? Why is the team going backwards at a rate of knots?

Dean Cox

Easy Beat Swans Coxless & Successless

Have you ever seen a Swan travelling backwards, faster than a rock dropped from a high ladder? The red and white Bloods are no more, as they are playing without belief. Coaching, according to the greats, is mainly about communicating your message to the players. If a coach cannot get that belief in place, then, all else is pretty much shot. Dean Cox seems like a nice bloke, but coaching is not about being liked. The role demands so much more. It demands respect from the playing group. Some coaches have that kind of aura in spades and some just don’t. Whatever is cooking at the Swans, behind closed doors, is not to the taste of the players. They just aint playing like their lives depend upon it.

“A dominant first half has propelled Adelaide to a big 21.5 (131) to 5.11 (41) win over Sydney at the SCG on Saturday night.

On a night celebrating the famed Bloods culture, the Crows were too strong, kicking 12 unanswered goals on their way to a 21.5 (131) to 5.11 (41) victory at the SCG on Saturday.”

Dean Cox & The Swan Dive

The team reeks of complacency, which has turned sour. Like a chef that has lost control of what is cooking in the pot, Dean Cox is fast running out of ideas and ingredients to add. If Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey and the Chad are tagged out of the game, the Swans are dead in the water. There is no second charge of the light brigade. Successive 10 to 15 goal thrashings are not what the doctor ordered or the Swan’s faithful are used to. How long will the management, in one of the toughest sporting markets in the world, put up with this malarkey? Dean Cox was handed the keys to a high performance vehicle and managed at Swan dive. Sport in Australia is taken more seriously than life or death. AFL is the biggest game in town.

Sydney Swans Have Been Bad All Year

The Swans have been bad all year and injuries can no longer be the big excuse. Plenty of teams have long injury lists and are not playing this poorly. Whatever is the root cause of the rot within the playing group it has to be cut out pronto. The fans won’t march and turn out for matches if the players can’t play up to AFL standards. Errol Gulden is not the messiah. He is not even a naughty boy; he is just injured and out of action for the majority of this season. The Cox game plan sucks. It does not measure up to the best teams in 2025. If you don’t progress in this competition you sink. The Cox coached Swans are sinking fast. Where is the lifeboat? Who can help get their head above water? Cox’s coaching group are not performing. How do we know this? Because the playing group suck.

“Are the Sydney Swans so disappointing this year because their former coach, John Longmire, jumped from a sinking ship? Did Longmire desert the players in their greatest moment of need? Has Dean Cox, the long serving apprentice, been handed a poisoned chalice? Whatever is at the root of the blight the team are playing like a bunch of hapless losers. Cox has resorted to blaming the players in public, after 10 weeks of sucking up the pain himself, he is dishing some out himself. Questioning the list, as not being up to current AFL standards and questioning their heart. This last damning reality was never something to entertain under Longmire or Paul Roos.”
