When the Liberal Party elected Peter Dutton as their leader what did they think would happen? This is the hard right face of this once broadly representative political party. Peter Dutton: Australia what did you expect? A party shunted out of office after 10 years of doing little more than protecting the status quo. At a time when Australia and the world required real leadership, we got jobs for the boys and heads buried in the sand. The Coalition was a federal government devoid of vision and tightly controlled by vested interests.

Dutton Decision is Death of Liberal Relevance in Australian Politics

The centrist heartland of Australia rejected the Libs and Nationals after giving them a decade in office to do something about tackling the serious issues facing Australia. Their record on climate change was appalling and has put back Australia at least 10 years in its efforts to do something about this existential crisis. The Liberal Party plays politics whilst the country burns. Malcolm Turnbull could have been a good leader if he hadn’t been hamstrung by the right and their corporate masters. Murdoch and the fossil fuel industry kept the Coalition on a tight rein. Scott Morrison was a backstabbing bastard pretending to be a jovial everyman. Look at their record for confirmation.

Leading A Coalition Opposition Out Of Ideas

Robodebt was an illegal attempt at screwing over the poorest people in Australia. This huge stuff up cost us the taxpayers $1.8 billion in a settled class action. It betrayed the trust of the people in its institutions and government. It caused the deaths of completely innocent vulnerable Australians. The Coalition manipulated federal government spending programmes to favour their own electorates at the expense of the parts of Australia that happened to live in Labor held seats. They delivered no definite energy policy, which hampered investment we sorely needed to begin the transition to renewables. This has put back the nation and will make the transition all the more harder and painful.

“WE CAN NOW quantify the losses to the economy – and to the people of Australia – due to the incompetence and corruption of the Liberal-National Party Coalition over its eight years and eight months. The October Budget Papers provide full data on spending, revenue, deficits and debt over its disastrous tenure.

In that entire period, it did not generate a single budget surplus, despite governing during a phenomenal period of global economic growth, booming international trade and soaring commodity prices.

On virtually all tables of economic outcomes, Australia has tumbled down the global rankings year after year. As analysed in detail in April, Australia from 2012 to 2022 added more debt to GDP than any developed country except Costa Rica.”

Scott Morrison and the Coalition sat on their hands with their heads in the sand. Leadership requires vision, calculated risk, and freedom. The Liberal Party of Australia and the Nationals had none of these things.

Peter Dutton as leader is a move backwards into a corner for the Liberal Party. His refusal to recognise the Voice to Parliament is a terrible illustration of this. Australia as a nation supports this long overdue move toward recognition of our Indigenous brothers and sisters. Dutton hasn’t read the mood of the nation, but stayed within the rump of the hard right faction, which controls the party. Peter Dutton: Australia what did you expect? Unless they dump the Dutton and invest in reinventing themselves the party is doomed to a decade in the darkness of the political wilderness.
