I could not resist drawing parallels between the resurrection of the dire wolf and the return of Donald Trump to power. Both things are equally foolish and dangerous. Thanks to Trump’s tariff policy we are in dire trouble globally. The dire wolf in the White House is hell bent on damaging the world economically in record time. The decision to genetically recreate a dire wolf from grey wolves seems to be symbolically on par with Trump’s global tariff policy – ‘all show and no go.’ Together, these are testament to the shallowness of America’s desperate desire to hang onto the appearance of hegemonic power amid its rapid decline.
America Is In Dire Trouble With Trump In The White House
“In an announcement that spawned flashy headlines—and scientific criticism—the world over, the biotech company Colossal Biosciences declared on Monday it had “resurrected” the dire wolf, a massive carnivore that once prowled North America before going extinct some 10,000 years ago. “ “
What possible use is a dire wolf to the 21C world? It reeks of irresponsible American excess. ‘All show and no go!’ It is, perhaps, indicative of why the decline of the United States appears to be in overdrive right now. Re-electing a compulsive liar and grifter to the presidency has distinct parallels to such wasteful and shallow uses of scientific knowledge and technical expertise.
Wolf At The Door For Everyday Americans
Yes, dire wolves are white too. Perhaps, we will see Donald Trump playing with a dire wolf pup on the lawn of the White House. I mean, we have had Tesla car promotions taking place there. The wolf is going to be at the door for many Americans, as the tariffs bite pushing up prices and inflation on essentials. It is the poor who are always most impacted by things like tariffs. Everyday Americans will pay the price of the dire economic situation caused by the Trump slump. Financial markets have already lost some $11 trillion since Trump’s inauguration.
“The last time the US imposed tariffs of the size Trump is proposing was in the 1930s. President Herbert Hoover signed the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act into law, imposing taxes on more than 20,000 imported goods in an attempt to protect American jobs. Other countries responded in kind by imposing or increasing their own tariffs. The economic situation deteriorated rapidly.
US unemployment soared from 8 per cent in 1930 all the way up to 25 per cent in 1933. Global trade plummeted by two-thirds between 1929 and 1934. During the Great Depression, American stocks declined by nearly 90 per cent. It was a period of awful human suffering.”
“Since his inauguration, Trump has wiped off $11 trillion from the market. Under Joe Biden the economy was growing and improving the whole time. All those liars on Fox News and in the right wing media echo chamber have brought this lunatic to bear upon America and the world. These people need to be held responsible for the misinformation and blatant lies broadcast to the listening population. That $11 trillion crash will strip away the value of retirement nest eggs and shareholder portfolios. This insane tariff policy will drive the world into recession, as it did in the 1930’s Great Depression.”

Self-Serving Trumpists Letting America Down Big Time
The dire wolf in the White House has sharp teeth, economically speaking. Congress, on the GOP side, have abandoned their responsibilities to the American people. These self-serving careerist politicians are more concerned with keeping their well paid positions than standing up for the country. They have been emasculated by Trump and the MAGA forces. Congress is a joke in 2025. It is frightening to see how easily the American system has been gamed. Courage and fortitude are in short supply to put it mildly. It is a dire situation on Capitol Hill.
Dire Wolves & Grey Areas Scientifically Speaking
“ “We’ve taken a gray wolf genome, a gray wolf cell. which is already genetically 99.5% identical to dire wolves because they’re very closely related,” Shapiro said. “And we’ve edited those cells at multiple places in its DNA sequence to contain the dire wolf version of the DNA.”
Not everyone is convinced. Dr. Julie Meachen has made studying wolves her life’s work, and was a co-author, along with Shapiro, on a 2021 paper that concluded dire wolves and gray wolves diverged millions of years ago. “
