Aussie News Stuck In Adversarial 2 Party Politics Model

The ABC and its legacy media pack leader, News Corp, are unable to adjust to the new political landscape downunder. The Liberal Party has become an irrelevance to modern metropolitan Australians. However, the mainstream media are stuck in a 2 party adversarial model in their coverage of federal politics nationally. Thus, we have disproportionate amounts of attention being paid to a political movement that the bulk of the population have moved past. Aussie news stuck in adversarial 2 party politics model. The LNP Coalition was trounced at the last federal election because Australians were sick of far right toxic masculinity masquerading as democratically elected representation. The Tony Abbott/Sky News Australia led hard Right faction of the Libs were completely out of step with a younger and more dynamic Australia.

Neo-Nazis Demonstrating Outside The NSW Parliament

If you wanted proof that the police services are more aligned with right wing white supremacist movements than other protest groups you only had to watch Neo-Nazis demonstrating outside the NSW Parliament. The NSW police service had no problem with this going ahead. You do not see many non-white faces among police anti-riot units when watching news coverage of protests around the genocide in Gaza. Bashing up brown skinned people and those passionate about defending the rights of innocent women and children in Gaza are, obviously, more in line with the priorities of Australian police. Masked men in black saluting in paramilitary fashion whilst protesting against Jews is more the cup of tea of the upper echelons of the NSW police, it seems.

Liberal Party In Civil War For Control

The Liberal Party of Australia is in a civil war between its moderate side, which seeks to regain relevance within a modern Australia, and the far right faction still in the grip of toxic masculinity. Peter Dutton fell at the last federal election, as leader, rejected by the Australian electorate on all fronts. He had run a campaign and his tenure as opposition leader aggressively, in the mode of former short term PM Tony Abbott. Abbott was still pulling the Liberal Party strings, along with his former chief of staff now over at Sky News Australia. Their conservative brand was Trumpist, via its extreme nature, which was always attacking and polarizing. Liberal Party in civil war for control, who will lead them going forward? Currently, Sussan Ley holds the mantle atop the Liberal Party of Australia.

No Service: Profitability Is The New Power

Day 3 of having no power due to a storm. No service: Profitability is the new power. Yes, this post is written under the duress of being cut off from electricity in my home and work. We live in a time, where being connected to the grid is more essential than ever before. Everything now runs on electricity. My gripe is that despite this clear and present reality, we are still dependent upon outdated and fragile infrastructure. 50 years ago, as I was growing up, I heard about the plans to put the power lines underground. Indeed, this has been achieved in many new suburbs. I do wonder why in this wonderful new world of privatised utilities how so many more established suburbs and towns have not been transformed in this subterranean fashion. Storms wreak havoc to power lines on poles.

5 Good Reasons Why Reading Will Save Your Brain

Do you find reading stuff to be a bit of a drag? Are you always on the look out for an easy hack? The bad news is that if you don’t exercise your brain function you will pay for it later on. Use it or lose it! Technology may seem great and so convenient, but it is dumbing us down and charging us for the service at the same time. Reading utilises different parts of the brain than watching videos. Processing the meaning of words and sentences makes you smarter and not the machine. Ruminating on important stuff via reading essays will make you wiser. Here are 5 good reasons why reading will save your brain.

The Bad Cop On The Political Beat Downunder

Queensland is a different state. Peter Dutton, the leader of the Opposition, comes from and represents Queenslanders. The bad cop on the political beat downunder. Many of its sons and daughters are proudly proponents of a white Australia. Especially in regional Queensland, where there is blatant racism expressed by townsfolk toward those not cut from the same cloth. The banana bending state:

“Queenslanders voted against the Voice to Parliament — more than any other state or territory in Australia”

Caveman Sports Have No Place In A Healthy Life

Contact sports in the guise of AFL or rugby are coming under increasing scrutiny in regard to head knocks to players. The truth is that modern human beings are not designed to crash and bash into each other at speed. We have, obviously, evolved away from the need to do so in the natural world. Survival does not call for such behaviour these days and that has long been the case. It is, rather, recreational pursuits in the form of team contact sports which have become the unhealthy danger in recent years. The professionalism and commercialism within these sports have motivated players to become bigger, stronger and faster in pursuit of material rewards. The resultant clashes between these modern day gladiators are fuelling an increasing amount of brain injury diseases showing up in past and present players. Is it a situation where caveman sports have no place in a healthy life?

Qantas Upgrade Palm Greasing Of Politicians

The recent political kerfuffle over politicians getting free upgrades on Qantas flights misses the point somewhat, I think. It is the corrupt and odious practices of Qantas management which should be called out rather than merely berating the politicians, in my view. Qantas upgrade palm greasing of politicians. Alan Joyce was one of, if not, the most ruthless CEOs in Australian corporate history. This chief executive of our defacto national carrier for more than a decade, instigated repeated purges of the Qantas workforce. These were undertaken whilst simultaneously currying favour with the political movers and shakers by making them and their families feel special in the air and within the infamous Qantas Chairman’s lounge. Old fashioned graft and palm greasing really.

Dressing Slaves For Work

was listening to an interesting presentation on Plantation Goods – these were the products made for the enslaved workers in the south. These included the textiles woven for the clothes worn by the cotton pickers, the tools used by the agricultural and mine workers, and the shoes and hats required by these enslaved folk. Much of this stuff was made by businesses in the north of America, thus linking the slave economy with the greater United States. The author of this book, Seth Rockman, recounts some fascinating and unexpected historical information he found detailed in letters between the merchants and slave holdings involved.

America Shat Its Pants & Is Revelling In It

When America elected Donald Trump as president in 2016 it was, I think, akin to the country shitting its pants. The chaos that resulted from the Trump presidency was embarrassing for the world’s superpower. Trump was a loose cannon with diarrhoea putting institutions and people at risk minute by minute. No one could work with him and the sackings were matched by the quitting of staff and appointees. The dysfunction was everywhere to be seen and things stank to high heaven. 8 years later and it is like America shat its pants and is revelling in it now or the idea of returning to that parlous state anyway. The standards of decency have come down so far among the half of the country supporting a Trump 2.0 they must be enjoying the feel of the filth in their underdaks.

Donald Trump’s America

The Republican party, that GOP, has been bought by Trump and his MAGA forces. In less than 10 years, an American political institution has been brought to its knees by extremists. Donald Trump’s America took over the GOP. Whatever gravitas it may have possessed is long gone, along with respect and common sense. It is now a party with no soul and no appetite for decency or the rule of law. Donald Trump, the property developer and reality TV celebrity, has imbued the traditional party of the right with his own brand of lunacy and grievance politics. A cult has formed around the leader of this once great party, a cult made up of disgruntled, overweight, non-college educated Americans, in the main. Folk who feel like they missed out on the great American dream.

Partisan Politics Prevents Progress

The 2 party preferred system in Australia locks the nation into this dualistic cage where important stuff doesn’t get done. Partisan politics prevents progress. That’s a lot of ‘P’s’ and it pisses me off! Currently, we have a Labor government in the thick of a housing and cost of living crisis. On the other side, we have Peter Dutton doing his best Tony Abbott impression as a wrecker in Opposition. Dutton has taken the Liberal party to the extreme edge of centre right by doing stuff like running a disinformation campaign during the Voice referendum debate – spreading fear and polarising the population. You get the distinct sense that Dutton looks to Donald Trump for ideas and inspiration.

Smashed In The Grand Final

I have a confession to make. My football team, the one I support and have done so for the last 30 years, was cruelly smashed in the Grand Final. This, unfortunately, is a repeat performance, as it happened also in 2022. Getting to a GF is no mean feat in and of itself – it is a heck of an achievement. This, paradoxically, makes the experience of seeing your team get thrashed in the ultimate game even worse. Not to make a fist of it but to be wiped off the stage so utterly is a devastating feeling, even for the fan. A gloom descends over one’s life and you feel like wearing a black arm band following such a build up and such a comprehensive defeat.
